Prerequisite: At least 1½ years of high school algebra or Intermediate Algebra 112 or equivalent.
Course Description: Operations with algebraic expressions; linear and quadratic functions; graphs of polynomial and rational functions; systems of equations; logarithmic and exponential functions and other fun stuff.

Publishing Company, 1997.
Evaluation: There will be 4 or 5 one hour, 100 point, exams with dates being announced in class approximately one week in advance. The last test may be during the last week of class. Arrangements for make-up exams must be made with the instructor well before the exam is given in class. Homework and unannounced quizzes will result in a score of 200 possible points. There will be a comprehensive group final worth 200 points. The course grade will be evaluated as follows:
90% - 100% A
80% - 89% B
70% - 79% C
60% - 69 % D
59% or below F
This is a tentative grading scale and can be amended downward at the discretion of the instructor, however the scale will not be raised.

Basic Skills Exam: To receive credit in this course you MUST score 9 out of 11 correct or better on the basic skills examination. The skills tested are required for success in the mathematics courses for which this course is a prerequisite. Your score on this test is not counted in your course grade. You may take the test at any time from March 9 through April 7, (the last day to drop a course). You may take different versions of the test until you get at least 9 of 11 correct. This MUST be completed by April 7. If you have not passed the test by then you will be dropped from this course unless you indicate to the instructor that you prefer to remain in the course and receive a failing grade.
The purposes of this test include; (1) to motivate mastery of basic pencil and paper skills; (2) to indicate a high degree of accuracy in performing basic skills.
